I just can’t get enough of these three stars. If you’ve read my previous post and liked it, you might enjoy watching this video by Jack Horkheimer. He shared three good reasons to look up to the sky (at night and when you’re not driving, of course!) and like Mr. Horkheimer said, once you’ve found them you’ll never forget them! :) Maybe it’s just me again, lol.
Three quick wow facts, did you know that:
- These three stars are super easy to find because they are the only three such equally spaced stars in a row visible to the naked eye.
- Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka are so much bigger and brighter than our Sun (which is already about a million miles in diameter itself!) E.g, Alnilam is 30 times the width of our Sun.
- It takes about 8 1/3 minutes for Sun’s light to reach Earth. Guess how long it will take for the three stars? 1000 years! Triple Wow!
I will have to agree with my sister on the names though, while they may sound poetic, they are pretty disastrous for girls names (or boys), hehe.
